Your first visit to Cheow Lan Lake
Find your bearings, choose a pace and prepare for a boat journey among limestone cliffs.
Understand the two gateways
Khao Sok village and Cheow Lan Lake are different starting points, not interchangeable names for one pier. The lake is a reservoir within the wider Khao Sok landscape, reached by road to the pier and then by boat.
Check your meeting point and transfer arrangements before choosing accommodation. A stay near the village does not mean you are already beside the lake departure point.
Choose time on the water
A day trip offers a first look at the cliffs and lake without an overnight stay. An overnight itinerary gives more space for quiet periods between activities, but also means packing for a remote setting.
Compare what is actually included: transfers, meals, accommodation, park fees and guided activities may differ. Ask about boat time and the expected physical effort rather than judging a trip only by its photographs.
Let conditions shape the day
Rain, wind and water levels can change a route. Cave visits, forest walks and swimming are conditional activities, not promises that should override a guide’s safety decision.
Tell the operator about mobility needs, swimming confidence and relevant health concerns before departure. Wear a properly fitted life jacket on the boat and follow the crew’s boarding instructions.
Travel lightly and leave little behind
Bring sun protection, drinking water as advised by your operator, and a waterproof layer for both rain and boat spray. Keep a phone and essential medication in a sealed dry bag.
Carry rubbish back, keep voices low near wildlife and never feed animals. The best view is not worth leaning out of a moving boat or stepping beyond a safe landing area.
